[Blackjack] Basic Strategy Quiz 01

Hi, there.

I'm Japanese Nokkie.

Now it's time for the blackjack quiz.

Q  In the basic strategy of Blackjack (4-8 decks , which action should we choose in the following cases:

1  When a player's first hand is 16 and a dealer's first hand is 2, we should choose □.

(a) hit    (b) stay   (c) double down

hand 16 against Dealer's 2

The correct answer is (b) stay.
Expect the dealer to bust his hand.

2  When a player's first hand is 12 and a dealer's first hand is 2, we should choose □.

  (a) hit    (b) stay   (c) double down

hand 12 against Dealer's 2

The correct answer is (a) hit.
It's one of the difficult situations.
I wonder there's not a big difference of the winning percentages between hit and stay.

A couple of months ago, I conducted a test and got practical results.

3  When a player's first hand is a pair of 5 and a dealer's first hand is 6, we should choose □.

  (a) hit    (b) double down  (c) split

Two 5s against dealer's 6

The correct answer is (b) double down.
It's one of the biggest chances to gain our chips.
From the results gained by the tests, however, I can say split is also a good choice in this situation.
I won't do it, though.

4  When a player's first hand is a pair of 8 and a dealer's first hand is 10, we should choose □.

  (a) hit    (b) stay    (c) split

Two 8s against Dealer's 10

The correct answer is (c) split.
There are opinions on the pros and cons of this choice in this situation.
If allowed, surrender would be a good choice.

Thinking in terms of process of elimination, split is better, isn't it?
However, we should be careful under no hole card style.

How many questions did you answer correctly?  Are they easy?

Good luck for your winning!
Bye.
