I'm a Japanese guy, Nokkie. I'm a cram school teacher and normally work in the evening. When I have time, I make a study of Blackjack through taking a test practically. I wanna become a smarter blackjack player in the future. I've been seeking for a convincing rule recently.

[Pontoon, Spanish 21] Two 9s vs Dealer's 2

Pontoon (Spanish 21) Strategy

Stand on the pair, unlike the BS of Blackjack.

Two 9s ve Dealer's 2 in Pontoon

In the basic strategy of Pontoonstay is recommended.
But some players split the pair following the BS of Blackjack.

I wonder why the two BS are different in this situation.

I conducted a Pontoon experiment to calculate the winning percentages for both choices.

This video consists of 20 games in the above situation.
The playback time is about 15 min.

After recording the video, I collected more 80 data to get more precise results.

Results of the experiment

The following two graphs show the results based on the 100 data.
Pontoon Experiment Result of stay (Two 9s vs Dealer's 2)
The result was better than I had expected.
The player would win at a rate of about 1/2.

Pontoon Experiment Result of split (Two 9s vs Dealer's 2)
Compared to the losing percentages on each graph, there's not a big difference between the two choices.

The results except for a tie

 are as follows:

Winning Percentages
Stay 58%    Split 49%

The chips fluctuation
Stay +12 chips    Split +9 chips
(Bet amount: 1 chip every time)

To sum up, standing on the pair is more preferable to splitting it.

One more graph below.
Pontoon Experiment Result of 3-unit win (Two 9s vs Dealer's 2)
The 3-unit win means, for example, one is a double down hand and the other is a normal hand.
Splitting 9s and taking a card of 2, we will be able to double down at hand 11.

As a merit of Pontoon, taking a picture card at hand 11, the player will definitely win, regardless of the dealer's final hand.

However, the probability of taking the card is 3/12 (25%) in theory.
It's about 6% lower than the one in Blackjack.

I like 11-double in Pontoon very much.
That's really exciting!

That's all.
Hope Pontoon will get famous & popular.
Thanks for reading.
